#3 Excess Magic (9-2) is 3-for-3 on turf and he was on cruise control in his last pair. I like his tactical speed and his numbers jumped up Jan. 3.
#5 Fighting Force (3-1) followed up a sharp flat mile turf maiden win at Gulfstream Park with a runner-up finish as the favorite in the Dania Beach. Todd Pletcher’s $400k purchase figures to stalk the pace. His stablemate #11 Winfromwithin (7-2) controlled the pace from post 12 and held on by a half-length in his turf route maiden win at Gulfstream Jan. 2, and the top two finishers were 8+ clear of the rest. Pletcher’s $100k purchase is on the upswing.
